Long run 8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1

The whole scale down at a fast tempo.

yah
One repetition of the pattern. In the app it is transposed to your vocal range and scored note by note.

Long run 8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 is the complete major scale descending from the octave: octave, major seventh, major sixth, perfect fifth, perfect fourth, major third, major second, root. Seven quick eighth notes and a held root. Unlike the pentatonic runs, this one includes the semitone steps, seventh to sixth and fourth to third, easy to smear. “Yah” starts each run cleanly with a soft “y” and keeps an open vowel so the run stays even to the bottom.

How to do it

  1. Listen to the piano play the eight notes, then sing them back on “yah”.
  2. Keep every note the same volume; runs like to fade at the end.
  3. Watch the semitone steps, seventh to sixth and fourth to third: each needs its own green block.
  4. Land the root and hold it for the full length.
  5. Each repetition starts a semitone higher. If the middle blurs, slow the tempo slider.

Coach's tip: Keep even volume – runs usually “fade” at the end.

What to watch out for

Two spots smear most: the semitone from the seventh to the sixth, and the one from the fourth to the third. They show as one yellow smudge instead of two blocks; slow down until both separate, then rebuild speed. The other habit is fading, so the last three notes disappear. Keep the breath moving to the root. Don't rush ahead of the piano; lock the eighths to the beat. If the top notes strain, lower the range.

Who it's for

A level 3 exercise for singers who have Pentatonic run down 8-6-5-3-2-1 clean and want the full scale at speed. Use it late in the main block when the voice is fully warm. Major scale downward at a slow tempo is the natural preparation, and Fast octave scale is the next challenge. Listed in Agility and runs.
