Free mode (tuner)

No task – you see live what you sing. For improvising and checking single notes.

Free mode (tuner) has no task and no score. It shows the pitch you sing as a live line on the piano roll against the note grid, and nothing else. It's the place to check your microphone level, improvise, try a phrase from a song you're learning, or find out which note you're actually singing when something feels off. Everything happens in the browser, as in every exercise; nothing is uploaded. Any syllable or vowel works, since there's nothing to grade.

How to do it

  1. Open Free mode and sing or hum anything; the line appears as soon as the mic picks you up.
  2. Check the level bar: it should reach green at normal singing volume; adjust your distance or input gain if it doesn't.
  3. Sing a single note and hold it; watch how steady the line is and how far it sits from the nearest note.
  4. Try a slide up and down to see how the line tracks; this doubles as a quick daily check of your voice.
  5. Leave when you're ready; there's nothing to save.

Coach's tip: A good place to check your mic setup: the level bar should reach green.

What to watch out for

The main mistake is not using it before the first real exercise. If the level bar stays low, the app hears little and scores will look worse than your singing. Background noise, a fan or music playing, adds jitter to the line; quieter room, better reading. Another trap is treating a wobbly line as a failure; steadier breath, not more effort, straightens it. You can't strain here unless you make it a contest. If your voice feels tired, this is the mode to stay in.

Who it's for

For everyone, at any level, at the start of every session. New users should open it before Vocal range test to confirm the microphone is working. Singers learning a song can use it to hear their pitch on a hard phrase. Use it as a two-minute cool-down after Belt: long note on “eh” or any loud exercise. It's a tool, not part of any program.
