Vocal range test
Find your lowest and highest comfortable note. Sets the range for all exercises.
Vocal range test isn't an exercise; it's the setup step every other exercise depends on. Clearsing asks you to sing your lowest comfortable note and your highest comfortable note on 'ah', reads the pitches in the browser, and saves them as your range. From then on, every scale, arpeggio and melody is transposed to fit between those two notes. A good range is a working range: notes you can sing cleanly today, not the extremes you can squeeze out once.
How to do it
- Warm up first for a few minutes; a cold voice tests smaller than it really is.
- Start the test and sing 'ah' downward, note by note, until the sound gets weak or airy; that's your bottom.
- Then sing upward on 'ah' until the sound wants to push or tighten; stop there, that's your top.
- Check the two notes the app found and save them; you can redo the test any time.
- Repeat it every few weeks, or when exercises start feeling too easy or too high.
Coach's tip: Sing on “ah”. Lower/higher only as long as it is comfortable – this is a working range, not a record.
What to watch out for
The classic mistake is testing for a record: growling to reach a lower note or shouting for a higher one. Both give you a range that is too wide, and every exercise afterward will feel like a strain. Stop where the tone is still clean and steady. Another error is testing cold or hoarse; do a hum first. If the top note hurts, it's not in your range. And remember the app reads what the mic hears: sing at a normal volume, not a whisper.
Who it's for
Everyone, on the first visit, and again every few weeks as the voice develops. Beginners should err on the narrow side. Do it after a short warm-up such as Hum on one note or Lip trill – siren, never at the end of a heavy session. If you're not sure the mic is working, open Free mode (tuner) first. It isn't part of any program; it's a tool.
Opens the app in your browser. Free, no account. Put on headphones first.
