Long note 6 s

Hold one note steadily for 6 seconds.

ah
One repetition of the pattern. In the app it is transposed to your vocal range and scored note by note.

Long note 6 s is the simplest breath exercise: one note held for six seconds, three times, each two semitones higher. There's no interval to find; the whole task is a tone that starts on pitch and stays there, at the same volume, until the end. Six seconds is long enough to feel what your breath does but short enough for a beginner to finish comfortably. “Ah” hides nothing: any wobble in pitch or volume shows on the roll at once.

How to do it

  1. Hear the cue note. Breathe low into the belly, then start the “ah” gently on pitch.
  2. Release the air slowly and evenly, as if through a thin straw.
  3. Watch the line on the roll stay flat and green for the full six seconds.
  4. Breathe calmly, then repeat two semitones higher.

Coach's tip: Breathe into the belly, then release the air as if through a thin tube.

What to watch out for

Most beginners start loud and run out of air by second four, so the last two seconds sag flat. Begin at a moderate volume you can keep. A second habit is a scoop at the start, so the block turns yellow before green; hear the note first, then begin exactly on it. A shaky line usually means the shoulders rose on the inhale; keep them down and breathe low. If you feel dizzy, you are pushing too much air; sing softer.

Who it's for

A level 1 exercise for beginners and for anyone opening a session. Use it right after the warm-up, or as a gentle cool-down at the end. Timed “sss” hiss prepares the breath without pitch; Long note 10 s is the next step once three clean six-second notes are easy. Listed in Breath and long phrases.
